Osaka is a cocktail of excitement, the city is known for its delightful street food (make sure to try the Takoyaki!) and its glamourous nightlife. The crown jewel though, is the majestic Osaka Castle. Dating back to the 16th century, much of the original structure has been lost to damage and war, but it has been restored on several occasions.
Visiting the castle itself is very simple, it’s not like you can miss it! The castle is located inside Osaka Castle Park, which in itself is worth time exploring. The approach to the castle, nestled in a forest of trees can be quite the sight.

If you want to take a look inside, you can! Tickets can be purchased from the self service machines or the booths, if the machines are causing you some trouble. While most people will be going to the top of the castle for the splendid panoramic views of the surrounding park, the castle has a museum inside detailing much of it’s tradition and history.

Luckily when I went, the autumnal leaves were in full bloom, providing a wonderful backdrop to the setting, and was not left disappointed. One of the many highlights of Japan!
