The city of Geneva has a lot to offer. Be it the waterside promenades of Lake Geneva, to the rustic charm of the Old Town, to the scientific brilliance of CERN. But take a walk off the beaten path, and you can find probably the most unique vantage point in the city.

The Rhone river, flowing from the lake upstream, intersects with another river, the Arve. It’s here where you can find a viaduct, the Viaduc de la Jonction, spanning the junction of said two rivers. This may just appear to be another bridge, but working your way up there provides you with a spectacular sight.

The Arve, flowing south, carries white sand, giving the river a milky appearance, but the Rhone, which flows from the lake, does not, giving the river a darker hue. Where these two rivers overlaps provides a unique phenomena, where you can see where the rivers come together. You can even see this split on google maps! The difference in solubility of the two bodies of water is crystal clear!

Getting here can be quite the trek, I used the route from the north side, which requires a lot of walking through some quite neighborhoods, and it isn’t the most clearly signed. Even with the help of your phone! Rule of thumb, just follow the railway line, and you’ll eventually come to the mammoth viaduct. You won’t get a clear view, due to the safety railings, but it isn’t the busiest of areas, so you can get more than enough time to get the most shots carefully, but be vary of the freight trains blasting by behind!

You should be able to see a park nestled in-between the two rivers from your vantage point, Pointe de la Jonction, make your way down the other side, and cross one of the bridges to the spot of land. The views from the ground are also just as nice, as you can go all the way up to the tip of the river banks. This place is quite a way from the main city center, but if you really want a special photo from Geneva, and enjoy a nice walk. Make sure to visit here!
