With a dedicated elevated walking pathway, taking you over the traffic, the bridge offers one of the best views in the Big Apple, without having to worry about traffic. Being close to the Financial District, where I was staying, the bridge is within walking distance, say a decent 15-20 mins. If you fancy the subway, Brooklyn Bridge station is just around the corner. Just follow the road signs for the bridge, and you cant miss it!

The path up takes a different route from the traffic, so to get onto the bridge, do not follow the cars! Otherwise you’ll be turning back around to find the actual entrance. The footpath is marked on maps, and starts a good distance from the actual structure. Keep in mind, the bridge is quite the workout, especially on a humid day, the bridge starts to incline early, but the effort is worth it. Walking from the Manhattan side, the NYC skyline will be behind you as you walk, but there are plenty of vantage points to take in the vistas and the intricate architecture of the bridge itself. The web of cables set a perfect backdrop.

If you’re taking a scenic stroll, while enjoying the sights, it’ll probably take a good 20 minutes or so to complete the crossing, and with all the opportunities for snaps, you’ll be stopping a lot! If you’re looking to explore the neighbourhood of Dumbo over in Brooklyn, there is a staircase that you can take down to the streets below, which saves you the time of going all the way down to the other end, and looping back. So make sure to take that exit if that’s on your agenda. Dumbo is home to the iconic sight of the Manhattan Bridge, towering between the cobbled streets. While you’re in the area, the detour is a must. The nearby Brooklyn Bridge park is another stop to consider, with a serene view of the East River and the metropolis of Skyscrapers from across the water.
