With its neon light and billboards for as far as you can see, Times Square is probably the most iconic plaza in the world. Mention New York, and this is probably one of the first images that springs to mind.
Located along 7th avenue, and between the two icons of the Empire State and Rockefeller, this central location makes this a perfect hub, and a junction you’ll probably be at on several occasions.
Deciding to check it out both at day and night, the morning was not the greatest of weather. Storm like conditions weren’t helpful, but with an umbrella in tow, there were still a lot of tourists and locals around. There are several metro stations that are all in the close vicinity of the area, thought Times Square-42st is probably the best exit. Even in the pouring rain, the sheer number of lights and billboards will catch you out, seeing it on TV doesn’t really do it justice, especially on your first visit. The rain wasn’t easing up, but to spin it into a positive, the puddles of water provided a beautiful reflection of the dazzling lights from above.

Though remain vigilant, even in the day time, as you are likely to get pestered by people asking for various things and looking for an opportunity for a quick buck.
While the downpour in the morning offered a serene yet mesmeric backdrop, when the sun goes down, the square really comes alive (for better, and worse!). If you thought the lights were eye catching in the day, at night, you can see the square from a long while away, the neon aura lighting up the night sky from a few blocks away.
The region is simply heaving with people, the famous red steps, crammed full of people trying to get the perfect selfie! Some may like the somewhat party atmosphere the place has in the evening, but it can get somewhat overbearing at some places. Try to find a gap in the crowd and take in the the glitz of NYC. A word of advice, the area will be crawling with people dressed as various superheroes, offering to take a photo, please don’t, they will hound you afterwards for a tip.

Times Square is certainly an icon of Manhattan, just keep your wits about as a tourist, and you’ll have a wonderful time.
