Manhattan isn’t short of vantage points. With its plethora of skyscrapers, from the iconic Empire State Building, to the financial hub of One World Trade. But if you’re looking for the most distinctive look at the New York skyline, make your way over to the newly built One Vanderbilt, just a short walk from Grand Central station.

Built only in 2020, the 93 story skyscraper isn’t as well known as its more famous contemporaries  , but with its observation deck, known as The Summit. It really does have a USP no other supertall can offer. Nestled in the middle of titans such as the Empire State, Rockefeller and Chrysler buildings, you really have the best view in NYC from here, being pretty much slap bang in the middle.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt offers a-bit more than the usual observation platforms. Currently there is a digital exhibition by the artist Kenzo Digital, called Air. With the various rooms titled after different themes, from the grand, mirrored hallways of Transcendence to the balloon shower of Affinity.

The mirrors offer a simply phenomenal picture, with the stunning Manhattan backdrop, the experience here is incredible. Probably the most amazing view I’ve had the pleasure to see in a long time. Do be careful though, the sunshine can be a difficulty, and you may walk into a mirror!

While the exhibition offers something different, if you’re simply looking to enjoy a nice drink and enjoy the open air, head out to the terrace, and enjoy the concrete jungle that is New York. Pretty much every NYC icon that be spotted from this perfect location, you really do notice the sheer size of Central Park.

My experience of visiting here was very smooth and calm, as opposed to The Top of The Rock at the Rockefeller Building, where the queues go out onto the streets, and feels a lot more chaotic in general with the slightly claustrophobic deck at the top. So if there had to be a choice of the two, SUMMIT would be my recommendation!
