Up High…Shibuya Sky

The iconic Shibuya scramble crossing is a must-visit location, drawing crowds who eagerly anticipate the crossing as the lights turn green. For a higher vantage point, head to Shibuya Sky, one of the newest attractions in town, perched atop the nearby Shibuya Scramble Square building. Locating the entrance can be a challenge – it took us a few laps to find it, a testament to the complexity of navigating Shibuya Station.

Once you find the elevator up to the main reception, join the queue and make sure you have your ticket! You can order tickets online, to save you any hassle of purchasing on the day, or worse, seeing a staff member hold up a sign saying that tickets have been sold out for the day! Tickets cost around 2000 yen. A short journey up takes you to the main foyer, the friendly staff will guide you to the main elevator while checking your ticket.

As you ascend to the 47th floor in the express lift, man sure to attach any cameras to a strap, as it can get windy up top. Utilize the lockers to secure any loose items before experiencing the breathtaking open-air viewpoint, offering a panoramic vista of the vibrant capital. This location is unparalleled for capturing stunning photographs and videos.

Despite the towering presence of the Tokyo Sky Tree from across town, the open-air helipad exudes a distinct charm, with its inviting astroturf surface providing a comfortable space for relaxation. Fans of Alice in Borderlands will instantly recognise the delightful rooftop setting, reminiscent of the series’ captivating finale.

Shibuya’s location offers panoramic views of Tokyo, from Tokyo Bay to Yoyogi Park, and on exceptionally clear days, even Mount Fuji in the distance. Each side of the deck provides breathtaking vistas, particularly the viral escalator leading down, with the Tokyo skyline on your left as you descend towards the entrance. It’s undoubtedly one of the most stunning escalators I’ve experienced! Additionally, there’s a bar where you can enjoy refreshments while enjoying the best of what Tokyo has to offer.

This spot is actually fairly new, only opening in 2019, but it is fast becoming one the must visit attractions, and if you’re in the neighbourhood, its a no brainer to visit!
