The city of Tokyo offers an abundance of lush green spaces where visitors can unwind amidst the bustling urban environment. One such sprawling oasis is located in close proximity to one of the busiest stations in the city, Ueno. Situated just north of the vibrant district of Akihabara, Ueno Park beckons with its serene atmosphere and verdant surroundings.

The station itself is quite the beast, but follow the signs to make a beeline to the park. Being one of the biggest parks in the capital, there are alot of attractions and things to do. If you want to connect with your wild side, you can drop by Ueno Zoo, you cant miss it from the entrance! We preferred to simply walk around the vast expanse and just see what we could come across!

One of the first places we came across was the intricate Ueno Toshogu Shrine, nestled within the picture perfect Toshogu Peony Garden. The day was somewhat overcast, but it didn’t take away from the wonder of the pretty garden, weave between the lanterns and statues as you admire the feudal architecture.
If you’re looking for some culture, the park is home to several museums, such as the Tokyo National Museum and the National Museum of Nature & Science. We took off in the opposite direction, towards Shinobazu Pond. This quaint corner of the park is filled with lily pads, a temple, and when we went, a row of street food vendors setting up with some fresh catches from the sea!

As we were on a tight schedule, we didn’t spend too much time here, with the sheer amount of attractions, you could easily spend half a day here! But took the western exit out the park, going around the pond with is nests of swan boats waiting to be peddled on a hot summers day! Our next stop from here, the charming Nezu Shrine…..
