It’s not often I’d bother writing about an airport, but Changi Airport in Singapore is one of those rare exceptions. The Garden City was the second stop on our trip across Southeast Asia, but before we even set foot outside, we had one must-visit spot in mind!
Officially known as the Rain Vortex, most people simply call it the waterfall—and for good reason. This 40-meter water feature is absolutely breathtaking in person. Seeing photos and videos online doesn’t do it justice; the sheer scale, the sound of rushing water, and the immersive atmosphere make for an unforgettable experience.
The waterfall is located in The Jewel Changi, an entertainment and retail complex connected to the airport. However, depending on where you land, getting there might require a bit of a walk. We arrived at Terminal 2, which isn’t directly connected to Jewel, so we had to navigate our way over—luggage in tow! Thankfully, the route is well-signposted, with plenty of moving walkways to make the journey easier.
One tip: you’ll hear the Rain Vortex before you see it! Just follow the sound, and you’ll find yourself in a lush indoor garden surrounding the waterfall, complete with exhibits showcasing local flora. It’s an awe-inspiring sight and the perfect place to explore, especially if you’re not rushing for a flight.
I’m glad we made the stop on arrival, as we didn’t pass by it on our way out. If you plan to visit, be sure to check which terminal you’re landing at and how to get there—it’s well worth the detour!
