Finding Calm in the Heart of Seoul: Cheonggyecheon

In the middle of Seoul’s bustle lies Cheonggyecheon, a peaceful stream flowing quietly beneath the city’s busy streets. One moment you’re surrounded by skyscrapers and traffic; the next, you’re stepping down into a green, watery escape.

While walking back to our hotel one evening, we stumbled upon this hidden gem. I started at Seoul Plaza, welcomed by the glow of neon sculptures and flashing ads, then followed the stream past stepping stones, darting fish, and shaded benches. It felt like the city’s living room, locals unwinding after a long day, gathered by the softly murmuring water.

Bridges revealed murals and art installations, turning the walk into a mix of nature and open-air gallery. Under the evening moon, the city lights shimmered in the water, and the sound of the stream blended with distant music. Seoul at its most serene. Here I found some of my best photo moments: the soft touch of nature set against the striking geometry of Seoul’s skyline.

Tips:

  • Start at Seoul Plaza and walk downstream.
  • Evening visits offer cooler air and gorgeous reflections.
  • Wear comfy shoes and bring a snack or drink.
