Kichijoji: Where Tokyo Breathes
Tokyo can be a whirlwind , neon flashing, trains rushing, and a thousand voices overlapping. But 15 minutes west on the Chūō Line, there’s a station where the air feels lighter. Step off at Kichijoji, and you step into a Tokyo that doesn’t compete for your attention; it invites you in quietly. The biggest challenge is finding the correct platform at Shinjuku itself!
🌳 Inokashira Park
- This is the crown jewel of Kichijoji, but unfortunately, the weather was terrible that morning, so we had to make a beeline through the park.
- If the weather is nice, be sure to stop by and enjoy the nature and the iconic swan boats on the lake.

🎨 Ghibli Vibes
- Another major attraction is the Ghibli Museum, located just across the park.
- Reservations are essential, the tickets are limited and go fast! Use this website for ticket info, https://www.ghibli-museum.jp/en/tickets/
- No photos are allowed inside, and the museum is closely monitored by staff, so not to spoil fans beforehand by seeing it online, but it’s a must-see for fans of all things Ghibli. The gift store is a fans dream!

🛍️ Kichijoji SUNROAD
- Immediately across from the main train station is the striking shopping arcade known as Sunroad, its charming façade concealing a long stretch of shops and cafés
- Ideal for a lunch break after a morning of hitting the park!
💡 Why you’ll love it:
It’s Tokyo without the rush, parks, tiny bars, and streets you’ll want to wander all day.
